On retirement, Sharon and I decided we wanted a character, country cottage to make a new home. We bought Authers in 2014 and after extensive renovation moved from West Sussex to Cotleigh in 2015.
Originally trained in Hotel management I worked in the hospitality business for many years both in the UK and overseas. Later, I changed career path into Facilities Management, managing services and property for large corporate organisations mainly in and around London. We’re now enjoying the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful part of Devon while we work to transform what was a wilderness of a large garden.
My name is Martyn Broom and I am a dairy and sheep farmer in the village. I have lived in Cotleigh all my life and was one of the last pupils to attend the village school before it closed in the 1970s. My family have farmed in Cotleigh for several generations. We have always been actively involved in village life and our community projects.
Bob joined the council in May 2018. He retired from the construction industry after working for 40 years. He is concerned about the environment and wildlife. He volunteers for Cats Protection and is coordinator for the Honiton Branch.
I have lived in Cotleigh since 1994 with my husband Steve. We have two reasonably grown up children who both attended local primary and secondary schools. One has now flown the nest whilst the other is training to be a nurse. I have worked for the financial service company, Mercer for over 30 years in various actuarial pensions team most recently as a resource manager.
I am also currently working as Product Owner for a new computer system development project. I have been working from home since the start of the pandemic and intend to continue working from home for the majority of the time going forward. Outside of work I am captain of Honiton Hornets Ladies Hockey Club and have played for them for many years. I am a keen gardener and enjoy being outside as much as possible – particularly in the warmer months.
I’m Chris Henley, a retired highway engineer working for Devon County Council for 45 years. I am now employed part time at Chilcotts Auctions in Honiton. I am local to the area and spent my childhood in nearby Wilmington. My wife Tessa and I have lived in Cotleigh since 2007 and I have recently joined the parish council. I am also a member of our fete committee.
I have lived in Upottery since 2001 with my husband Andy. We have three children. I became Cotleigh Parish Clerk in March 2013. I am also Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Ottery St Mary Town Council and Upottery Parish Clerk. Before having children I was a Support Manager for BT.
